We are a small family who enjoys the fine things in life. Between the three of us, we look so hard to find good food and travel to find great experiences. Since there are so many things to experience but too little time, we are here to share our experience with you. Lets experience more by sharing.
- Imperfecto, Washington DC
Why Imperfecto for the perfect guy?Hubby’s birthday and he picks this place based on their motto, I think because they did not have Michelin star when he made the reservation.
24th being the weekday we do not get much traffic on our way to Imperfecto. Parking is easy, area is nice too. We are early but our table is already prepared for us. Staff is professional, courteous, and friendly. The place has a nice energy to it. Modern decor with the right amount of warmth, nothing smothers you.
Service is prompt the staff is well-versed in their menu and philosophy of the chef. The wine list is good. They also have pisco!! Son and I get distracted by their cocktails. Purist hubby knows what beer will go his food. Son chooses glenmorangie cocktail Riviera and I go for Imperfecto Club. Drink look gorgeous and taste lovely!
We decide to start with Moussaka Cigars, Falafel, and Aladdin Burrata and the winner is Moussaka Cigars! Smoked eggplant is delicate, lamb is delicious and the texture is perfect. Falafel get lost in these starters. Burrata is fresh and crisp lentils offer wonderful contrast, but it’s the tamarind hummus that sings. Three of us agree that there should be no other kind of hummus! And suddenly we get zucchini soup, compliments of the kitchen! Nice and warm , flavors enhanced by the ancho chili oil on top.
Server chats with us while taking order for our second course, he wants to know what we liked best so far. We order our round of our drinks, Son wants gin and tonic and Hubby tries another beer that will go with Truffle Tagliolini and Foie Gras. Pasta is nice and fresh, truffle kinda unnecessary. Plantain brioche is crisp and soursop compote is delicious and again the truffles seem unnecessary.
We agree that the ambiance is really nice, you can talk but not hear the awkward stuffy formal silence. Service is not pushy but quickly and timely appears when you need them. We decide on sharing Duck Magret and Lamb Terrine. Server shared that lamb is cooked for an entire day! And it shows – soft juicy and melt in your mouth. In my opinion Pomme purée is silky and the red cabbage confit is unbelievable. Son thinks the dry- aged duck is really delicious but Phoenician Rice tops everything. Hubby thinks that there is so much truffle slices on lamb and it serves no purpose.
Now it’s a birthday so we gotta have desert. At another table I see a young get seven sorbets, looks so beautiful. But we decide on eclair which comes with a candle, thankfully the staff does not sing; brûléed ricotta is creative, poached pear is really lovely. So we agree that we understand how they got the Michelin star, what is most memorable about Imperfecto is the experience you have there, the ambiance and the service and their effort to continuous quest for perfection!
